Excerpt from the Heart of Change One Habit, Change Your Life
You've made it through the two weeks of Foundation. You've worked hard, developing your own foundation for changing your habit. You've clearly defined what you want to do. You've made a commitment to changing your behavior. You've got your affirmations and visualizations ready to support you through the next three weeks. You're now ready to get into ACTION!
This part of the program is based on the "Twenty-one Day" theory that Benjamin Franklin proposed: Do something every day for twenty-one days in a row, and it will become a habit. That works for the small stuff if you've got the motivation and commitment to stick to a change for twenty-one days. (Which you do!) For the big life changes, the kind you're working on here, it takes more than twenty-one days of effort. Which is why you broke down the life change you're trying to make into small habits that you can develop (mostly) in three weeks. And if it takes longer than three weeks, that's fine too. It just means that when the Bridge segment comes around, you'll stay focused on this behavior, rather than adding a new one.
